Day 3 – Finger Lakes

For several years, since we started traveling with Wanda1, we’ve been visiting the Finger Lakes area of New York in the fall. We’ve stayed at New York State parks on Cayuga and Seneca Lakes. This is beautiful farm country, with many Amish dairy farms, and many wineries. The area is known for its excellent cold-weather wines, especially Riesling, Cabernet Franc, Sauvignon Blanc, and some Chardonnay. We’ve had great fun touring the wineries, often with our friends Jackie and Tracey. We stayed an extra day here so we could visit a couple of our favorites before we travel on.

Buttonwood is justifiably proud of their Rieslings!

We tasted a dozen wines at Buttonwood and liked them all (that doesn’t happen often)! It was tough to narrow down a few to add to our traveling wine cellar. But we forced ourselves, and ended up with a Fume Blanc, an unoaked Chardonnay, a Cab Franc rose, and a 2019 Riesling blend. All will be great traveling companions!

Our favorite winery in this region for some time has been Boundary Breaks, in the town of Lodi on the eastern shore of Seneca Lake. We love the Rieslings, and the Gewurtztraminer, and the sparkling Riesling, and the Cab Franc rose. And that’s what we still loved this time. So we added some of those to the wine “cellar”. And now we are really ready for our trip! ❤️🍷

Most of the wineries in this region are dog-friendly, but Boundary Breaks really goes all out to make a visit extra fun for the pooches. Their dog park is a very large fenced-in area with a shade tent, water bowls, and a BALL and throwing stick just waiting for the right visitor. Gracie hadn’t had a good ball-chasing session since we left home, but she made up for it today! In fact, she is now sleeping, muttering and thrashing and wagging her tail furiously. Tired and happy!

Today’s stats: 23.6 mpg! No towing!

  3. It’s now clear why you needed a bigger rig: to carry all them bottles. Bottoms up!

  4. Love the photo of the trunk: half wine, half dog crate. Good to see priorities are all in order! Love seeing the finger lakes in the fall, too
