Monday morning came, as it always does, bringing our wonderful weekend with Sharon and Andy to an end. They came by to see us off and to share a beautiful batch of wine cap mushrooms picked that morning. We are so spoiled! Thanks for a great visit guys! Hope to see you again soon!

We planned to visit Wisconsin Dells today on our way to our next destination. Rather than try to bring Wanda2 into town and find a place to park her, we thought we’d go to Dells of the Wisconsin River Natural Area and hike in to see these unusual rock formations. We did find a trailhead to park at, and hiked a loop that was supposed to take us to a beach on the river, but never found an access point to the river. We did, however, get to practice our mushroom spotting skills. Here are some of the fungi we saw along the trail.

I don’t think we’ll ever be able to take a walk in the woods again without seeing mushrooms everywhere we look!

After we returned to our waiting rig, we set out for Hixton / Alma Center KOA in Alma Center, WI. This turned out to be a little jewel of a campground! The entire place was beautifully kept, the facilities were exceptionally clean and thoughtfully designed. And the landscaping was outstanding! Huge plantings of hydrangeas were everywhere throughout the park. Specimen trees shaded campsites. A small fishpond for the kids with a fountain in it splashed near the entrance. It was the sort of place that made us want to return!
